SUMMARY:Data Science to Build Resilience and Improve Humanitarian Response
DESCRIPTION:The Data Science to Build Resilience and Improve Humanitarian Response Thought Summit brings together academic and industry researchers and humanitarian leaders to explore how data science and artificial intelligence can help predict\, prevent\, respond to\, and accelerate recovery from crises in some of the world’s most vulnerable regions. \nHosted by Cornell’s Collaboration for International Development Economics Research (CIDER) in partnership with Cornell’s Center for Data Science for Enterprise and Society\, the summit will focus on innovative uses of ever-expanding sources of data\, including satellite imagery\, weather forecasts\, censuses\, surveys\, community-generated data\, and machine learning to improve early warning systems\, target humanitarian assistance\, and design more impactful aid policies. \nBy connecting philanthropies and the private sector with Cornell expertise across computer\, information\, natural and social sciences\, the summit aims to spark new research\, collaborations\, and funding pathways that bring cutting-edge data tools into real-world humanitarian decision-making.

SUMMARY:Community-Centered AI
DESCRIPTION:The Community-Centered AI: Methodological Innovations for Environmental Justice\, Labor Equity\, and Data Sovereignty Thought Summit addresses the urgent need to reimagine artificial intelligence development away from extractive\, environmentally harmful practices toward community-controlled approaches that center environmental justice and data sovereignty. \nBringing together researchers\, practitioners\, and community members\, the three-day convening will tackle AI’s core problem – its massive carbon footprint\, displacement of local expertise\, and violations of community consent – through collaborative workshops\, participatory algorithm auditing\, and solution-generating discussions. \nThe summit will produce immediate practical resources including a Community-Centered AI Toolkit\, methodology guides\, and case study databases\, while establishing longer-term strategic outcomes such as a research consortium\, policy recommendations\, and a five-year roadmap that positions community-controlled AI as both a recognized field of practice and an ethical alternative to mainstream technology development that serves rather than exploits the communities most affected by environmental and social inequities.

SUMMARY:Building Benchmarks for AI-Driven Veterinary Innovation
DESCRIPTION:The From Data to Animal Health: Building Benchmarks for AI-Driven Veterinary Innovation Thought Summit focuses on advancing artificial intelligence to transform animal health across species and veterinary domains. The summit will bring together experts from veterinary medicine\, computer science\, ethics\, and law to tackle the unique challenges of creating standardized\, high-quality datasets tailored to veterinary needs. \nThrough collaborative workshops and discussions\, participants will lay the groundwork for VETNET—a pioneering ecosystem of live benchmarks designed to foster AI-driven innovation in veterinary medicine. The summit aims to spark a multi-institutional academia-industry partnership\, publish a foundational whitepaper\, and catalyze the development of public benchmark datasets that will drive transformative progress in animal health and improve outcomes for animals\, veterinary professionals\, One Health\, and society at large. \nProgram highlights\nKeynotes (open to the event participants only): \n\nP-J Noble\, University of Liverpool\, “What is? Current state of benchmarks in vet medicine: needs\, challenges\, and opportunities”\nMaryellen Giger\, University of Chicago\, “What can become? Learn from benchmark successes and failures in human medicine”\nKilian Weinberger\, Cornell University\, “Datasets in the Age of Foundation Models”\n\n\nPanel on the plans for the VETMED ecosystem (open to the public) \nWhere: Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine\, Lecture Hall 5\nWhen: June 11\, 2026\n• 4-5 p.m.: Panelists will reflect on key insights and share future visions for interdisciplinary collaboration in building veterinary benchmarks.\n• 5-6 p.m.: Networking reception
